Neighborhoods

downtown

Historic State Street Plaza in Downtown Santa Barbara is one of America’s most pedestrian-friendly downtowns, in large part due to the amazing diversity of shopping choices. Our shop-lined streets are a favorite with visitors and locals alike. From Santa Barbara-style specialty shops to national brands, and from regional gallery favorites to indie boutiques, Downtown Santa Barbara offers an authentic shopping experience, whether you are seriously shopping, strolling, or just taking in the scene.

funk zone

The artistic Funk Zone features some of the area’s best boutique tasting rooms, art galleries, vintage shops, adorable cafes and up and coming distillers and breweries. Stretching from the ocean to Highway 101, the Funk Zone has transitioned from a hub of manufacturing to a cultural hotspot. Wherever you go, you're surrounded by contemporary galleries and graffiti street art murals. Don’t be surprised if you hear live music drafting out from a local venue luring you in for a listen and possibly a drink.

PRESIDIO

Along the way is the Presidio Neighborhood, named for the fort that became the heart of European settlement here. In fact, all throughout downtown, historic buildings tell the story of the people and events that shaped today's Santa Barbara and make it such a welcoming stop on so many itineraries. Enjoy walking winding paseos lined with local shops and tasting rooms interwoven into the historical landmarks and museums detailing the rich Spanish colonial history of Santa Barbara.
